 2016 Preview 


       Sumiton Christian finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Sumiton Christian just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region six with a 2-4 region record.

       The Eagles have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Eagles last playoff victory came during the 2004 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Sumiton Christian has gone a combined 23-36. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 1A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 23 seasons, Sumiton Christian has managed to compile a record of 104-127. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 1A and 235th in the AHSAA.

       The Eagles are led by head coach Bart Lockhart who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Sumiton Christian. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lockhart.

       Coach Lockhart's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 3-7 (30.0%).

       The Sumiton Christian Eagles will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2016 season. The Eagles may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region seven this year.

       The Eagles will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season. Sumiton Christian has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2011 but hope to return to the post season this year.

       The Eagles open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Victory Christian on Friday, August 19 at Richard Adams Stadium. Last year the Victory Christian Lions finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class 1A region five. The Lions lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Berry Fayette by a score of 46-14.

       Sumiton Christian and Victory Christian have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 3-3-0 record against the Lions. They last met in with
